Sea Salt on cartilage piercing.?

I have been told that the ear antiseptic i am using is drying out my ear, and to use sea salt instead. I have a couple of questions.

First is sea salt the same thing as Epsom Salt? i have Epsom Salt and i looked at the bag but it doesn’t say sea salt. If it isn’t, what should i look for in sea salt? Anything to avoid in the contents? I read to get it at the grocery store.

I have heard to “soak” your ear for 10 minuets 2-3 times a day. Does this mean put your ear in a bowl and lay down? or to soak a cotton ball and leave it on there.

If do you sea salt, do i stop with the antiseptic? Will sea salt keep me free of infection?

Also, how much sea salt should I mix with water? I have heard a lot of different things about that. And can I store the water in the fridge if there is some left over, or just leave it on the counter?
I didnt do my homework before i got the piercing done, and i got it done at clairs with a gun. stupid i know.

Sea salt and epsom salts are very different. Do not use epsom salts! They have a completely different chemical composition.

Get non-iodized sea salt. (it should be in your grocery store for about $1/lb)

That’s exactly what we mean by soak. I find it’s easiest to do while watching tv or reading. Don’t use a cotton ball. If you’re unable to lay down to do the soak, get a piece of sterile gauze (local pharmacy) and use that to ’soak’ it.

Stop the antiseptic. the sea salt will keep it clean and promote blood flow to the area which will help it heal.

Mix 1/8 – 1/4 tsp sea salt with 8 oz warm water. You don’t want it too strong as it will irritate the peircing. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s all you need. Make sure you boil the water first, then add the salt and let it cool. If you mix a full 8 oz, then put the unused portion in the fridge. Make sure you mix a new solution every day and discard the solution you’ve used to soak (for example, make 8 oz of solution, use 2 oz to soak each time, discard after use)
